Primary sponsor

The primary sponsor is the person who charters and authorizes the change. For large changes, this person is typically a senior manager or officer of the corporation. For smaller changes, this person could be a supervisor or department manager.

The primary sponsor has two qualities:

• Authority to authorize the change
• Resources to enable and support the change

The primary sponsor is also referred to as the champion or angel of a project.
