ECM background:
Organizations are beginning to change the way they think about change
management. In the past change management had been a set of tools, processes and
approaches for managing the people side of change. While this is still the foundation of change
management, leading organizations are beginning to build competencies in managing
change throughout the entire structure. From the CEO down to front-line supervisors, these
organizations are making effective change management part of 'business as usual.'
Prosci is calling this Enterprise Change Management (ECM)
- the process and approach for deploying change management into an organization.
ECM includes the strategic decisions about how and where to deploy change management and
the tactical questions regarding what steps to take.
Prosci's experience with building change management competencies includes:
- Developed the Change Management Maturity Model and
conducted research project with 180 participants in 2004
- Included a special section addressing the topic in the 2005
Best Practices in Change Management benchmarking study (411 participants)
- Conducted a special 2005 Enterprise Change Management
benchmarking study (65 participants) and interviews with leaders working
to deploy (18 business leaders)
- Hosted the first ever Enterprise Change Management (ECM)
Summit - Nov 7-10, 2005 - bringing together 16 business leaders to
examine change management deployment
- Hosted the second ECM Summit June 5-8, 2006 with 18 participants
- Released the whitepaper Are you
looking to build change management competencies throughout your
organization? in September 2006
- Hosted the third ECM Summit
April 17-19, 2007
- Released the ECM Roadmap
whitepaper in May 2007
- Hosted the fourth ECM Summit
October 30 - November 1, 2007
