Positioning to succeed in 2006

Email this page to a friend

As you enter the new year, you may be preparing for significant organizational change. Whether new products, improved processes, new job roles, entire transformational programs - your changes will impact people. This page is designed to provide tips and opportunities to truly position yourself to succeed at managing change in 2006.

The "Positioning to succeed in 2006" site includes a number of resources that will help you prepare for organizational change, including information from both the 2005 Best Practices in Change Management benchmarking report and the Prosci Change Management methodology as found in the CM Pilot and the Change Management Toolkit.

As you prepare for 2006, ask yourself these three questions:

  • What changes are taking place in my organization, department or workgroup in the coming months?
  • Does the change require people to do things differently - changes in process, systems/tools, behaviors, skills, expectations, job roles? Yes/No
  • Have I thought through the people side of change? What is going to be my biggest change management obstacle?

Most changes will require people to do things differently, but many project teams fall into the trap of thinking that if they design a fantastic solution, then people will get on board and support the change.

While many teams tend to overlook the people side of change, there are repeatable approaches and processes to ensure solutions are adopted as quickly as possible and meet their ultimate business objectives.
